Stay active, stay healthy

At Park Royal Montessori Nursery, we adhere to the NHS’ Live Well guidelines for pre-schoolers. They advise that being physically active every day is important for the healthy growth and development of babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers.

 Active Babies

At our nursery, babies are encouraged to be active throughout the day, every day in a variety of ways, including crawling. If they’re not yet crawling, we encourage them to be physically active by reaching and grasping, pulling and pushing, moving their head, body and limbs during daily routines, and during supervised floor play.

We realise that ‘tummy time’ is a crucial exercise for baby’s visual, motor, sensory stimulation and include at least 30 minutes of tummy time spread throughout the day when they’re awake. Once they can move around, we encourage them to be as active as possible in safely while supervised. They have opportunity to safely use the baby slide in their room.

Active Toddlers

Toddlers we are advised should be physically active every day for at least 3 hours. The more the better. This we spread throughout the day, including playing outdoors. Our children engage in activities such as riding bikes/scooters, pushing prams, playing in water, chasing games, ball games skipping, hopping, hula hoops activities, running and jumping which is the best way for this age group to get moving. Mustn’t forget planting sessions too.

 Active Pre-schoolers

Our Pre-schoolers are engaged in much the same physical activities as the toddlers but we incorporate this with weekly sports sessions with Coach Tatt who offers football coaching at the local secure park.
